Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Octopis Holdings (“Octopis”, “we”, “us”) collects when you sign up for Behind the Roll-Up Door or use this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to octopisholdings.com and to our email newsletter.

What we collect

When you subscribe, we collect the information you enter in the sign-up form:

• Your first and last name and email address.
• Your phone number, if you choose to give it.
• Your state, how you heard about us, which description fits you best, and the topics you'd like to hear about.

To keep a record of your consent, we also store the date and time you signed up, the wording of the consent you agreed to, the page you signed up from, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. We keep this record on our own server as well as with our email service provider, so it survives a change of provider.

When you receive the letter, our email service provider records delivery and bounces, whether the email was opened, and which links were clicked. We use this only in aggregate, to understand which topics readers find useful.

This website does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking scripts.

How we use it

• To send you Behind the Roll-Up Door and occasional company updates you've agreed to receive.
• To set up your subscription and keep a record of your consent.
• To make the letter more relevant, based on the topics you told us you're interested in.
• To reply when you contact us.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We do not use it for anything you haven't agreed to.

Who we share it with

We use MailerLite to store our subscriber list, send the welcome email and the letter, and host the unsubscribe and preferences pages. MailerLite processes your information on our behalf, only to provide that service, and under its own security and privacy commitments. Our website is hosted by DigitalOcean. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not share it with anyone else.

Double opt-in and unsubscribing

After you sign up, we send you a welcome email. Every email we send includes a link to unsubscribe or manage your preferences.

Every email we send includes a working one-click unsubscribe link and a link to manage your preferences; both open pages hosted by MailerLite. You can also unsubscribe on our Manage subscription page. We honor unsubscribe requests promptly, and in any case within 10 business days, as the CAN-SPAM Act requires.

Our emails

Consistent with the CAN-SPAM Act, our emails identify Octopis Holdings as the sender, use subject lines that reflect their content, include our physical mailing address, and tell you how to stop receiving them.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a suppression list so we don't email you again by mistake, along with the record of your consent and its withdrawal. You can ask us to delete the rest.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing hello@octopisholdings.com. Depending on where you live, including California, you may have additional rights under state privacy law. We will not treat you differently for exercising them.

Security

We limit access to subscriber information to the people who need it, and we rely on our email provider's safeguards for stored data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Children

This website and the letter are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we'll tell subscribers by email.
